Primary Job Function

As a Medical Editor, you will perform substantive medical editing, stylistic editing, and rewriting during the content development phase of our eLearning programs. You may also do medical writing at times. You will report to the Director of Content, and will also work closely with Managing Editors, Copy Editors, Medical Writers, Instructional Designers, and Project Managers.

Job Description

Mainly you will

  • Perform substantive editing, stylistic editing, and rewriting on original scripts, working within the guidelines set forth by the Director of Content
    • Substantive editing—clarifying and/or reorganizing a manuscript for content and structure, ensuring medical integrity of content
    • Stylistic editing—clarifying meaning, eliminating jargon, smoothing language and other non-mechanical line-by-line editing; may include checking or correcting reading level; creating or recasting tables and/or figures
    • Rewriting—creating a new manuscript or parts of a manuscript on the basis of content and research supplied by an author; may include some research and writing of original material
  • Incorporate or review client changes, which may involve rewriting sections or adding new sections
  • Assist Managing Editors in their timely review of scripts for accuracy, flow, and sound adult learning theory
  • Develop new scripts under the guidance of the Managing Editors
  • Assist Managing Editors in suggesting media treatments for manuscripts for storyboarding purposes
  • Liaise with Copy Editors, Quality Assurance, and Managing Editors to ensure that products are consistent
  • Liaise with Key Opinion Leaders and clients, if needed, to clarify editing/revising tasks
  • Ensure that substantive/stylistic medical editing and rewriting is completed to meet project timelines and budget


  • Graduate university degree in science (MSc or PhD) or science education, or experience as a medical professional (physician, nursing, allied health)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; diplomacy
  • Experience in medical and/or scientific writing
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a medical editor
  • Experience in following American Medical Association (AMA) style
  • Computer skills: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Reference Manager, authoring platforms
  • Outstanding English (both written and oral)


  • Prior experience in multimedia medical editing/writing
  • Background in pharmaceutical sales/sales training/science publishing
  • Training in a bioscience discipline and knowledge of clinical terminology
  • Knowledge of instructional design for eLearning
  • Member of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA)
  • Member of an editors association (IAMJE, EAC, WAME)
  • Creative mind with strong visualization skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Teaching experience
