Primary Job Function:

As a Medical Editor, you perform substantive medical editing, stylistic editing, and rewriting during the content development phase of our eLearning programs. You may also do medical writing at times. Reporting to the Account and Medical Director, you work closely with Medical Writers, Copy Editors, Production Designers, and Project Managers.

  • Lead content creation for project deliverables
  • Work with the Medical Director and Project Manager to design and deliver key aspects of our learning solutions
  • Perform substantive editing, stylistic editing, and rewriting on original scripts
  • Substantive editing—clarifying and/or reorganizing a manuscript for content and structure
  • Stylistic Editing—clarifying meaning, eliminating jargon, smoothing language and other non-mechanical line-by-line editing; may include checking or correcting reading level; creating or recasting tables and/or figures
  • Rewriting—creating a new script or parts of a script on the basis of content and research supplied by a client; may include some research and writing of original material
  • Incorporate or review client changes, which may involve rewriting sections or adding new sections
  • Develop new scripts with Medical Writers under the guidance of the Medical Director
  • Liaise with Copy Editors, Quality Assurance, and Graphic Designers to ensure that products are consistent, medically accurate and satisfy adult learning principles
  • Liaise with Key Opinion Leaders and Clients, to clarify editing/revising tasks
  • Ensure that substantive/stylistic medical editing and rewriting is completed to meet project timelines
  • Conduct research and curriculum design for proposals and business development

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in science (MSc or PhD preferred)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; diplomacy
  • Experience in medical and/or scientific writing
  • Autonomous, and keen to take ownership
  • Experience as an Editor
  • Experience in following American Medical Association (AMA) style
  • Computer skills: Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, Reference Manager, Authoring platforms
  • Outstanding English (both written and oral)

Assets:

  • Prior experience in medical editing/writing for multimedia and pharmaceutical training
  • Background in pharmaceutical sales/sales training
  • Tech savvy, open to non-medical learning and development
  • Training in a bioscience discipline and knowledge of clinical terminology
  • Knowledge of instructional design
  • Member of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA)
  • Experience working with remote teams
